A Story About SWBP

The SWBP Story

Southwestern Blueprint opened in 1911 and is Dallas' oldest reprographic business. SWBP has seen the evolution of the various printing technologies over the years. They started with blueprints and now offer high speed digital printing.

Jim Mitchell incorporated SWBP in 1964 and was the sole owner until his passing in August 1990. Today SWBP is still owned by the Mitchell family trust and the head of that trust is Robert Mitchell.

The Strong Relationship between HKS Architectural Firm and SWBP

Jim Mitchell established the strong business relationship that exists between HKS and SWBP. Upon Jim's passing, Ed Beverley, who was the V.P. over production, became President. Ed hired Gary Wydeveld to continue to build on the relationship between HKS and SWBP.

In 1998 Gary Wydeveld proposed SWBP open up an in-house print shop in the HKS headquarters. At the time HKS was moving to a bigger office location. The print shop is still open and serving HKS employees to this day.

A New Chapter For SWBP

Ed Beverley retired and Gary Wydeveld moved into the president role. To keep moving forward Gary had to look at other income generating opportunities.

The architecture and construction services have been good to SWBP over the years. Like everything else technology is changing the way companies are doing business. Especially the architecture and construction service industries. They started focusing more on digital output instead of printing.

Gary, focused on the full color sign industry. He purchased flatbed printers to pursue this new business opportunity. The signage and trade show business was growing fast in the DFW area. Mark Montez, came aboard to help with sales and build the SWBP signage business. The sign business has become a big income generator for SWBP.

SWBP Future

SWBP is starting a new chapter after Gary Wydeveld announced his retirement in early 2020. His goal is to spend his days on the golf course. Robert Mitchell hired Scott Slater to be the new President of SWBP.

SWBP is determined to keep moving forward and always looking for new ways to serve their clients to solve their printing problems. Also bring top quality print services to the DFW area. If you’re looking for printing services give SWBP a call at 214-939-0546.
